For the past month since being hospitalised, Nguyen Van Thong has remained unconscious. He is in critical condition and up to 57 percent of his body has been burnt.
Thong is suffering from multiple organ failure requiring blood filtration, mechanical ventilation and high-dose vasopressors. The daily cost of treatment is estimated to be around VND10-20 million.
Thong has been seriously burnt
Thong’s wife Nguyen Thi Kim Huong said that Thong was born in Thai Binh. When he grew up, he came to Gia Lai to earn his living and met Huong. They then got married and had two children.
Huong’s health condition is weak, so she mostly stays at home to take care of her children. The family’s income mainly depends on Thong who tries to do different kinds of jobs to earn money.
When their oldest son went to a university in Hanoi, Thong decided to go to Hanoi with him to find work to better support his study. Thong worked for a laundry facility where he experienced a vocational accident that left him burnt. The facility gave him financial support of around VND40 million.
His head, legs, arms and back are burnt the most. Meanwhile, Thong did not have health insurance, so the treatment is more costly.
His son feels guilty, saying that it is because of him that his father had to work for that laundry facility and faced buns. He wants to stop studying to earn money to support the family.
