September CPI slows in Hanoi, increases sharply in HCM City

Hanoi consumer price index in September rose 0.2 percent over last month, said the Hanoi Statistics Office.

Hanoi consumer price index (CPI) in September rose 0.2 percent over last month, said the Hanoi Statistics Office.

This was the first month in 2011 the Hanoi CPI experienced a rise of less than 1 percent, the lowest level in about a year.

The educational sector showed an increase of 0.98 percent; followed by cultural, entertainment, and tourism services (0.93 percent); and textile, garment, and footwear (0.91 percent).

The Ho Chi Minh City CPI rose 0.88 percent from August, bringing the average growth in the first nine months to 1.52 percent.

Two of the eleven commodities used to calculate the CPI including transportation and post and telecommunications decreased slightly (by 0.07 percent).
