Authorities in Ho Chi Minh City have recovered 12 more sets of remains believed to belong to fallen Vietnamese soldiers during an ongoing excavation at Le Thi Rieng Park, raising the total number of recovered remains to 209.
On the afternoon of August 5, the Ho Chi Minh City High Command released updated figures from the excavation, confirming that search teams had also recovered seven sets of associated artefacts alongside the latest discoveries.

The excavation is part of an ongoing effort to locate and recover wartime burial sites believed to exist beneath the park.
Search teams continued expanding the excavation area during the day, using three excavators to remove approximately 300 cubic metres of soil in the latest phase of the operation.

The search and recovery operation at Le Thi Rieng Park was launched on July 6 following the conclusion of Deputy Prime Minister Pham Thi Thanh Tra at a workshop verifying information about a mass grave of martyrs in the area.
Earlier, based on witness accounts and historical records, the Ho Chi Minh City Command estimated that hundreds of martyrs killed during the 1968 Tet Offensive and Uprising may have been buried in Do Thanh - Chi Hoa cemetery, now Le Thi Rieng Park.
