Residents evacuated from landslide-hit resettlement site in Lam Dong

Authorities in the Central Highlands province of Lam Dong have ordered the evacuation of residents from a resettlement project area threatened by severe landslides.

Le Trong Yen, vice chairman of the Lam Dong People’s Committee, inspected the site of the Dung K’No 5 Residential Project in Dam Rong 4 Commune on Wednesday. The project, managed by the Lac Duong District Construction Investment Board, is located on weak soil with a high risk of ground slips.

The project’s first phase has been completed, relocating 73 of 87 households, but since July, heavy rains have caused repeated slope collapses and ground subsidence, endangering nearby homes. Despite temporary repairs, such as covering slopes with plastic sheets and clearing water channels at the foot of the embankment, the situation has not improved.

Local authorities have cordoned off dangerous areas and put up warning signs to protect residents.

Yen urged agencies to ensure residents’ safety, deploy monitoring teams and evacuate people from high-risk zones. He also directed experts to conduct geological surveys and propose long-term stabilisation measures.

“The safety and lives of residents must come first,” Yen said, instructing the Departments of Construction and Finance and the Lac Duong Project Management Board to assess damage, estimate repair costs and propose permanent solutions.
