Authorities in the central coastal province of Quang Tri on Friday started rescue work for a foreign cargo ship that ran aground near Cua Viet Beach for several days.

Rescue work begins on October 22 for the Chinese cargo ship Glory Future which ran aground in Quang Tri Province
A rescue team with over 40 members and four ships have been sent to the area to help pull the 28,000-tonne cargo ship out of the area. It is estimated that the rescue work would take three days.
According to local authorities, the Chinese cargo ship Glory Future with 12 Vietnamese and 8 Chinese crewmembers ran aground in heavy rain and strong wind about two kilometres off the coast of Cua Viet on October 17.
The ship was anchored, waiting in the port of Cua Viet for 26,000 tonnes of sand for export to Korea when the anchor broke and drifted towards the shore.
The shipowner informed local authorities and worked with some local companies on the rescue work.
Director of the Quang Tri Seaport Company, Phan Phung Hai, said that rescue teams were taking advantage of the rising tide to pull the ship out of the stranded area.
"We have to be very careful to deal with possible oil spills," he said. "Two ships have been sent to help with this problem in case it occurs”.
