According to a report from local police, the animals were found on a truck driven by a local man Ngo Xuan Tung, 37, who was accompanied by Bui The Tai, 32, on Ha Long-Mong Cai Expressway on December 25.
The animals including 14 weasels, six wallabies, five guinea pigs, and three rabbits were in good health. All these animals are not naturally found in Vietnam.
The two men failed to present papers showing the origins of the wild animals. They said that they were hired to transport the animals from Ha Nam Province to China.
Quang Ninh Police transferred all the animals to the Vinpearl River Safari South Hoi An on December 27.
In early November, people in the northern province of Cao Bang also found four wallabies on a local road. They were believed to have been released by traffickers to avoid being checked while transporting them to China.
Two of the four wallabies have died a short time after being sent to the Hoang Lien Rescue and Conservation Centre in the northern mountainous province of Lao Cai.
