The project will affect around 8,000 students in 34 schools in the provinces of Dien Bien, Ninh Thuan, An Giang and Dong Thap.
Over 400 teachers employed at the schools have also been trained to operate and maintain the sanitation systems.
A ceremony was held for the project's completion at My Tho Primary and Secondary School, in Dong Thap Province on November 26, in which Lotta Sylwander, the representative of UNICEF in Vietnam said, "We hope that this will not only help the schools, but also help the practices of the surrounding communities."
According to Nguyen Thi Kim Loan, Procter & Gamble's Corporate Affairs Director, over the past five years, they have contributed to building nearly 50 sanitation facilities for schools across Vietnam, serving over 20,000 children.
A recent survey by the Ministry of Education and Training showed that about 30% of Vietnamese schools did not have adequate water sanitation facilities, and only 12% schools in rural areas had bathroom facilities that were in compliance with the standards of the Ministry of Health.
