The visit, taking place from April 12 to 14 at the invitation of the Vietnamese leader, marks the first trip by a foreign senior leader to Vietnam following the consolidation of state leadership positions after the first session of the 16th National Assembly.
It is also the first time Prime Minister Le Minh Hung has presided over an official welcome ceremony for a foreign head of government since taking office.
At the Presidential Palace in Hanoi, the two leaders reviewed a photo exhibition highlighting milestones in Vietnam Slovakia diplomatic relations.
Following the ceremony, they posed for a group photo before holding talks and witnessing the signing and exchange of cooperation agreements between the two countries.
Discussions are expected to focus on elevating bilateral ties and strengthening political trust, while expanding cooperation in areas including trade, investment, defence and security, science and technology, energy, culture, tourism, education, labour, green transition and digital transformation.
The two sides are also set to enhance coordination at multilateral forums and exchange views on regional and global issues, with emphasis on cooperation between ASEAN and the European Union.
After the talks, the two prime ministers met the press to announce key outcomes and outline future cooperation directions, reaffirming their commitment to deepening bilateral relations.
During his visit, Robert Fico is also scheduled to meet Party General Secretary and State President To Lam, as well as take part in other key bilateral activities.
The visit comes as traditional friendship and multi sector cooperation between Vietnam and Slovakia continue to develop positively, building on more than 75 years of diplomatic relations since 1950.
Fico previously paid official visits to Vietnam in 2008 and 2016.
