The Vietnam Railway Authority earlier sent a proposal to 22 cities and provinces nationwide to seek their opinions on resuming the operations of commercial passenger train routes from October 7.

According to the Vietnam Railway Corporations (VNR), localities needed to respond to the proposal before 5 pm on October 5. However, to date, only Quang Tri and Phu Yen provinces have expressed their agreement to the proposal.
The VNR is working with the Vietnam Railway Authority to collect the opinions from localities for submission to the government.
Vu Quang Khoi, head of the Vietnam Railway Authority, said that since late August, commercial passenger train services have been suspended due to the Covid-19 outbreak in many localities. Since then, the railway sector has only operated freight services and services transporting Covid-19-affected people home based on the demand of management agencies and localities.
