Truong Ngoc Dang, who cares for the pangolins at the zoo said that they only noticed the pangolin was pregnant when she started to prepare a place to give birth.
"From her behaviour we knew that she was going to give birth and so we moved her to a separate place to ensure better care," Dang said. "She successfully gave birth about a month ago. The new place for the pangolin mother and her newborn was enclosed and had heating to keep them warm."
Dang said that the zoo looks after seven pangolins. The pangolin parents have lived at the zoo for over four years.
Another pangolin also successfully gave birth at the zoo in 2017.
Pangolins are listed as critically endangered on Vietnam's Red Book. They are among the most trafficked animals on earth, with their meat and scales highly prized for food and traditional medicine in East Asia.
