According to police in Bao Lam District, four local residents including two men and two women were exploiting sand from a spring in the town at 5 pm when a flash flood swept through. They were unable to escape the strong flood currents and were swept away.
"We immediately sent a rescue team to look for them and found the body of Phung Thi, 33, the same evening," the police said. "Two men, Duong Van, 32, Ly Van, 49, and a woman named Trieu Thi, 37, now remain missing. A rescue team of over 100 people are still looking for them."
According to the National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, Cao Bang Province saw heavy rain with rainfall of 80 mm from the evening of July 4 to the evening of July 5, which triggered flash floods.
