
The two men drowned while travelling on flooded roads in Thanh Chuong and Nghi Loc districts on Wednesday evening and Thursday morning. Another man in Thanh Chuong District went missing while going fishing in a local field on Thursday morning.

As of 11 am on September 29, heavy rains had continued in many areas in Nghe An including Vinh City, Con Cuong, Quynh Luu, and Tan Ky districts, submerging houses and roads by up to one metre.

Some roads including National Road 7 leading to Ky Son and Tuong Duong districts and other national roads including 48; 48E, 48B; and 48D were blocked by flooding and landslides.

Vice chairman of Quynh Luu District People's Committee, Nguyen Xuan Dinh, said that flooding had occurred in most areas in the locality. "A dyke could potentially break so we've had to evacuate over 100 households," he said.

A report from the Thanh Chuong District People's Committee said that 509 houses had collapsed and over 100 hectares of vegetables had been damaged.

Nearly 400 schools in Nghe An remained closed on Thursday.

The neighbouring province of Ha Tinh also faced serious flooding and many schools had closed to ensure safety.
