New storm to hit the East Sea

A low tropical depression in the East Sea has strengthened into a storm, according to the National Centre for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting.

A low tropical depression in the East Sea has strengthened into a storm, according to the National Centre for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting.

The centre reported that the low tropical depression that was to the east of the Philippines’ Luzon Island developed into Storm Maon this afternoon, August 22.

In the next 20 hours, the storm would travel to the northeast of Luzon Island with the highest wind speed of 62-74 kilometres per hour.

It will move off the southern coast of China’s Guangdong Province with a highest wind speed of 102 kilometres per hour at roughly 1 pm on August 25.

The east of the East Sea would have violent wind and rough waves due to the storm from August 23.

In the 72-96 hours to come, the storm would continue moving west-northwest and then weaken.

From now to February next year, the East Sea would face 8-10 storms and low tropical pressures, including 3-5 that would hit Vietnam, the centre said.
