The information was given by the municipal Department of Tourism which carried out a check on local lodgment facilities.
According to the department, by April 13, there were 2,795 visitors staying at 1,749 municipal lodgment facilities, including 907 at hotels.
The list of travellers has been sent to the city’s Department of Health and districts for medical checks-up in line with Covid-19 prevention regulations.
Of the figure, 470 are foreign tourists and just 31 among those want to return to their countries. The HCM City Department of Tourism has informed their desire to other local concerned agencies and the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism.
Between January and February this year, tourist numbers and revenues of HCM City travel firms dropped by 50-60% on-year. The situation has worsened since early March.
To date, up to 90% of small and medium-sized enterprises have suspended their operation.
The total loss of the city’s tourism industry is likely to reach thousands of billions of VND.
