Mysterious carved stones discovered in Dak Lak

Forest rangers of Yok Dong National Park in the Central Highland province of Dak Lak have discovered a cluster of stones bearing mysterious carvings.

The site, located in Buon Don Commune, the largest commune in the country by area was found during a routine forest patrol.

A ranger spotted several neatly arranged stones on a hillside inside the park, each bearing deeply carved, unusual patterns, Linh said, prompting a report to park management over their potential cultural or historical significance.

A field inspection conducted on February 3 by park authorities and local officials recorded 65 stones scattered across four separate clusters. The markings include winding lines, spiral shapes and leaf-like motifs.

“We have not yet determined whether these patterns are the result of natural weathering or human activity,” Linh said, adding that reports had been sent to forestry, cultural and provincial authorities for further study.

Buon Don Commune, formerly known as Krong Na, covers more than 1,100 square kilometres and is recognised as Vietnam’s largest administrative unit at commune level.
