More than 6,000 people with disabilities in Ho Chi Minh City and 12 southern provinces attended a charitable festival at the Suoi Tien Tourist Area in HCM City on December 4.
They met, share feelings, went sightseeing and played games assisted by more than 1,500 volunteers.
Hua Ngoc Thuan, Vice Chairman of the HCM City People’s Committee, said that the festival is significant because it shows the society cares for handicapped people and encourages them to overcome their difficulties assert themselves, and integrate into the community.
He called on domestic and foreign organizations and individuals to pay help enable disabled people to improve their living standards, and create the best conditions for them to learn, work, enjoy life and develop their talents.
He proposed that contractors should consider disabled people when designing public projects and entertainment sites so that they can use them easily.
On the occasion, the organizing board presented 30 scholarships worth a total of VND27 million to outstanding disabled pupils and honoured 10 outstanding disabled athletes at the National Festival of Sports and Arts for People with Disabilities.
