The funds will come from the city budget.

The museum will include seven areas, each of which will exhibit a different feature of the capital, including legendary dragon, Hanoi’s cultural history, Hanoi during the founding of Van Lang and Au Co states, the insurgency against Chinese invasion and early liberty during the Ngo, Dinh, Early Le Dynasties.

Preparation for all exhibitions should be completed by December 2014.

Initial estimates by the municipal Department of Construction projected that the museum would cost VND2 trillion (USD96 million).

However, the additional funding will drive up the total investment in the project to nearly VND2.8 trillion (USD135.26 million).

In June 2011, cracks were found at the facility.

However, Vietnam Construction and Import - Export Joint Stock Corporation (Vinaconex), an EPC (Engineering, Procurement and Construction) contractor of the project, say they have dealt with these problems.

Hanoi Museum started receiving visitors on October 6, 2010 on the occasion of the 1,000-year anniversary of Thang Long – Hanoi.
