The Hanoi Department of Health and the Son Tay District People’s Committee will officially open a methadone maintenance treatment (MMT) clinic November 30.
The presence of U.S. Ambassador Michael Michalak and senior Ministry of Health officials will aid in the opening. This clinic, with the support of the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), is the third methadone clinic in Hanoi and the 13th nationwide. They have all been receiving technical and financial assistance under the U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR).
The U.S. Government has long played a leading role in Vietnam\'s successful expansion of methadone treatment for individuals addicted to opioids. Methadone treatment, used for more than four decades in many Western countries, is now part of a comprehensive set of healthcare services supported by USAID.
The opening is at 9 am, Tuesday, November 30 at Son Tay MMT clinic, No. 1 Phu Sa Street, Le Loi Ward, Son Tay District, Hanoi.
