A court in Tay Ninh Province has sentenced a man to life imprisonment for transporting more than 3kg of illegal drugs from Cambodia into Vietnam.

The People's Court of Tay Ninh Province on June 19 sentenced Chau Trong Giau, 27, from My Quy Commune, to life imprisonment, while Le Ngoc Dang Khoi, 18, from the same commune, received a 10-year prison term for illegally transporting narcotics.

According to the indictment, Giau and Khoi were acquainted with Tran Gia Huy, 21. Beginning in July 2025, Huy allegedly hired the pair on multiple occasions to transport drugs from Cambodia into Vietnam or deliver them to other individuals in My Quy Commune, Tay Ninh Province.

Investigators determined that Giau personally transported drugs several times in exchange for payments worth tens of millions of Vietnamese dong.

Khoi, meanwhile, repeatedly drove Giau to drug delivery locations and was paid between VND 1 million and VND 1.5 million (approximately USD 38 to USD 58) for each trip.

During the trial, both defendants admitted the offences.

The court said their actions were particularly dangerous, contributing to the spread of drug-related crime and other social problems.

After reviewing the case file, aggravating and mitigating circumstances, and the role of each defendant, the trial panel imposed the above sentences.

Authorities said the investigation involving Tran Gia Huy has been separated from the current case and remains ongoing, as investigators have not yet been able to question him.

According to court records, the case involved the transportation of more than three kilos of illegal drugs from Cambodia into Vietnam.
