At a forum on training human resources for the Long Thanh International Airport ecosystem organised by Thanh Nien Newspaper in Dong Nai City on August 14, Truong Trung Thanh, the airport's deputy director, outlined preparations for its official opening.

Thanh said the airport's infrastructure could be completed within several years, but preparing the workforce needed to operate it would take considerably longer.
“Long Thanh Airport is expected to require 1,032 workers,” Thanh said. “Since the beginning of the year, Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV) has conducted recruitment and training programmes and has now reached nearly 40 per cent of the target. The airport plans to hold another three or four recruitment rounds, initially preparing to receive about 200 new employees.”
New recruits are being sent for practical in-house training at Noi Bai and Tan Son Nhat airports. At the same time, the airport is planning to retrain its existing workforce to meet the operational requirements of the new facility.
Thanh said the current workforce was ready for basic operations. However, more time and careful preparation would be needed to move towards the integration of more advanced technologies at Long Thanh Airport.
Long Thanh Airport is the largest infrastructure project of its kind ever undertaken in Vietnam, Thanh said.
In its first phase, the airport is designed to handle 25 million passengers and 1.2 million tonnes of cargo a year. By the fourth phase, it is expected to have capacity for up to 100 million passengers and 5 million tonnes of cargo annually.
The airport is intended to be more than a facility for handling arriving and departing passengers. It is planned as an economic ecosystem supporting aviation and logistics through advanced digital technologies.
