Pham Gia Huy is the son of the couple Pham Minh Tuan and Le Thanh Lam from Vu Quang District’s Duc Huong Commune.
Huy is in desperate need of support for a bone marrow transplant
Lam said that when Huy was 10 days old, he was hospitalised due to necrotising pneumonia and septicaemia. One month later, he was taken to the National Children's Hospital in Hanoi due to gastrointestinal bleeding.
During the three-month stay at the National Children's Hospital, he also faced serious respiratory failure. He had to use ventilation.

Doctors sent his blood sample abroad to define the cause of his disease. The result then showed that he had incurred a rare disease because of the gene mutation which caused high levels of innate immune deficiency and chronic granulomatous disease. If not given the bone marrow transplant, Huy would die before the age of five.
The bone marrow transplant would cost around VND2 billion (USD85,106), doctors said. But this is totally beyond the family’s reach.
