The event aims to connect farmers, cooperatives and businesses, expand markets for local produce, and promote eco-tourism and agricultural experiences to create livelihoods and boost local incomes.
Chestnut trees have long been associated with Lang Son, particularly Luong Van Tri Ward. A grafted chestnut cultivation model was introduced in the ward in 2003.
The ward now has more than 120 hectares of chestnut trees, yielding an average 3.36-4.2 tonnes per hectare. Many households earn VND 150-200 million (USD 5,700-7,600) annually from chestnut farming, providing a stable livelihood.
In recent years, chestnuts have become a distinctive local product with growing economic and tourism potential. The 2026 festival aims to promote the speciality while supporting the preservation and expansion of local chestnut-growing areas.
Visitors can browse stalls featuring OCOP products and local specialities, sample chestnut dishes such as sticky rice, cakes and milk, and enjoy hands-on experiences at local chestnut orchards.

At the orchards, visitors can harvest, prepare and taste chestnuts themselves while enjoying the green surroundings, learning about local farming practices and discovering the area's distinctive culture.
At the festival, Luong Van Tri authorities called on orchard owners, cooperatives and businesses to maintain and improve product quality and adopt science and technology to increase chestnut yields, quality and value.
They were also encouraged to develop safe and professional experiential tourism, helping build the Luong Van Tri chestnut brand and promote Lang Son’s culture and people.
The province aims to expand its chestnut-growing area from 225 hectares in 2025 to 500 hectares by 2030, while increasing yields from 2.025 tonnes per hectare to 2.2 tonnes per hectare.
Key growing areas include Cao Loc, Thuy Hung, Chien Thang, Tuan Son and Luong Van Tri Ward.
During the festival, the organisers also presented certificates to owners of outstanding chestnut orchards.
