The crew of a Vietnam Airlines flight from HCM City to Haiphong reported a flashing object displaying red and green lights at an altitude of about 200-300 feet (61-91 metres) near the runway at around 10.23 pm.

Airport authorities, police and military personnel launched an investigation and later identified the object as a kite fitted with lights. The kite was removed from the area shortly before midnight.
Operations resumed at 12.10 am on June 8 after pilots confirmed the object was no longer visible.
The incident affected three flights, with two aircraft diverted to Noi Bai International Airport and another delayed.
One affected flight, Vietjet Air's VJ284 from HCM City to Haiphong, circled for about 40 minutes before diverting to Hanoi for refuelling. Passengers waited at Noi Bai airport for around three hours before arriving in Haiphong shortly after 3 am.
The incident came as flight crews from Vietnam Airlines and Vietjet Air also reported kites near Noi Bai on the same day, affecting seven flights. A day earlier, a drone sighting near Noi Bai disrupted 16 flights.
