Concerned about severe rainfall and flooding caused by storm Fengshen, many residents of Hue City have parked their cars and trucks in elevated public spaces and streets to avoid being submerged.

From the afternoon of October 22, residents began moving vehicles to higher ground such as public parks and open spaces after warnings of heavy downpours linked to the approaching storm.

Some car owners said they live in low-lying neighbourhoods that are often inundated after prolonged rain.

Popular parking spots included Nam Giao Park in Thuy Xuan Ward, An Hoa Park in Huong An Ward, Phu Cam Church, and Aeon Mall Hue, where locals sought refuge for their vehicles.

Pavements and high-lying roads in central wards of Hue City were also packed with cars as residents sought to “escape” the floodwaters.

According to the Hue Department of Agriculture and Environment, due to the combined effects of storm Fengshen and easterly wind disturbances, the city has experienced moderate to heavy rain since the night of October 19, with some areas recording extremely heavy showers and thunderstorms.

Floodwaters from upstream rivers combined with rising tides have caused localised flooding in coastal and low-lying areas such as Dan Dien and Quang Dien communes, and the wards of Thuan An, Hoa Chau, and Duong No, disrupting travel and daily life for hundreds of households.
