A douc langur in Quang Tri Province
Cam Tuyen Commune Chairman Hoang Lien Son said that a local, Le Ngoc Hoai, had discovered the group of monkeys and douc langurs while finding honey by Cu Lo Hill on December 13. According to Cam Tuyen communal authorities, there may be hundreds of monkeys and douc langurs living in a 100-hectare area 13km away from the commune's centre.
This location was managed by Duong 9 Forestry Company. The company has just transferred the forest to the communal authorities so the locals started venturing in to find honey.
"We'll work with forest rangers to review the situation in order to have plans to protect the animals and raise public awareness about them," Son said.
Cam Lo Forest Ranger Unit confirmed the collaboration. However, they haven't been able to work yet due to bad weather. There may be critically-endangered douc langurs listed in Vietnam Red Book among the discovered monkeys and douc langurs.
