Hue to offer free annual health checks to all residents

More than 1.2 million residents of Hue will be eligible for free annual health checks under a citywide programme aimed at expanding preventive healthcare and early disease detection.

The programme, covering the 2026-2030 period, was launched at a conference organised by the Hue People's Committee on June 16.

Under the plan, all people living, studying or working in the city will receive a free health check-up or screening at least once a year from 2026.

Health records will be digitised and integrated into electronic health books and the VNeID application to support long-term health monitoring and management.

Hue currently has about 1.27 million residents eligible for the programme. Priority will initially be given to elderly people, war veterans, low-income households, people with disabilities and other vulnerable groups.

The city aims to complete health checks for 50 per cent of its population by June 30 and achieve full coverage by the end of the year.

Officials said the programme is designed to shift healthcare from treatment towards prevention, enabling earlier disease detection and more effective management of public health.

Authorities have instructed agencies and local administrations to step up public awareness campaigns, expand the use of digital technology and coordinate implementation efforts to ensure the programme's effectiveness.

Tran Huu Thuy Giang, vice chairman of the Hue People's Committee, said the city currently has 24 qualified medical facilities participating in the programme.

A citywide campaign will be launched later this month, with health checks organised for public-sector employees, workers and other population groups, he said.
