According to investigators, Khanh rented a room in Tan Thoi Nhat Ward, District 12, which he used as an illicit production site. He was aided by Nguyen Quoc Bao, 45, and Truong Van Long, 35.

The group purchased untraceable motor oil and small quantities of genuine products from minor brands. They then mixed them in a 7:3 ratio and repackaged the oil into bottles, cans, and cartons bearing counterfeit labels of major brands such as Castrol, Motul, Honda, and Yamaha.

The fake products were then packaged to resemble genuine items and distributed to the market.

Distribution was handled through Nguyen Thanh Tan, 34, owner of a store in Binh Thanh District, and Nguyen Thi Kieu Trang, 30, who managed several online shops on e-commerce platforms including Shopee and Lazada.

The counterfeit products seized

After weeks of surveillance, at 2.15 pm on June 4, police caught the suspects red-handed while producing and transporting counterfeit oil at 98/4 Le Thi Anh Street in District 12.

A subsequent raid on a nearby production facility uncovered 1,987 fake oil containers packed in 73 cartons labelled with well-known brand names. Authorities also seized labels, machinery, raw materials, and documents related to the counterfeiting operation.

Another search at a warehouse on No Trang Long Street in Binh Thanh District yielded more than 3,000 additional counterfeit oil containers, along with sales records and invoices linked to the illicit distribution network.

Initial confessions from the suspects revealed that the ring had been operating for more than a year, producing and distributing over 220,000 fake products since February 2024. By leveraging e-commerce platforms and tech-based delivery services, the group successfully distributed counterfeit goods across multiple provinces and cities, earning illicit profits estimated in the tens of billions of dong.

According to police, the ring’s sophisticated methods and professional operations caused significant harm to consumers and the reputations of legitimate brands.

Based on the evidence, the Ho Chi Minh City Police Department has filed criminal charges and ordered the temporary detention of Nguyen Van Khanh, Nguyen Quoc Bao, Truong Van Long, Nguyen Thanh Tan, and Nguyen Thi Kieu Trang for producing and trading counterfeit goods.
