The decision was made upon the request of the Council for Education Accreditation, and will take effect from August 30.

On July 4, the ministry issued a circular stating that Vietnamese Heroic Mothers who participated in the revolution between January 1, 1945 and August Revolution 1945, people who were affected by toxic chemicals during the wars or those arrested and imprisoned by enemy would be given two bonus points if they took part in the university entrance exams.

The heads of the Ministry of Education explained that the regulation was a way to shows society's gratitude for the sacrifices made by those who contributed to the revolution.

However many people claimed that it is unrealistic.

"Only a small number of Vietnamese Heroic Mothers are still alive, and those who are alive are too old to take part in a university entrance exams. The revised circular is difficult to understand and unrealistic. Management agencies should re-consider this to find out whether or not it was just a typo." said Van Nhu Cuong, member of National Education Council.
