Tien Yen Commune is among the hardest-hit areas, with warnings of potential flash floods and widespread inundation in the coming days.
According to data from meteorological stations, rainfall between 7 am on October 14 and 7 am on October 15 reached 299 mm in Tien Yen Commune, 252 mm in Bai Chay Ward, and 93 mm in Uong Bi Ward, highlighting the widespread impact of the current downpour.
Many roads in Tien Yen, especially Dai Phong, Khe Muoi, Hua Cau, and Thanh Phong routes, have suffered severe landslides. In several sections, floodwaters have washed away embankments, posing serious risks to motorists and pedestrians.
Immediately after the incident, local authorities and residents in Tien Yen quickly mobilised equipment and workforce to make temporary repairs and restore safe passage. Officials also advised residents to avoid deeply flooded and landslide-prone areas.
Water levels on the Tien Yen River have risen above warning levels, reaching 0.89 metres higher than Level 2 at Binh Lieu station at 8 am on October 15.
Amid worsening weather conditions, authorities have warned of a high risk of flash floods and landslides, particularly at construction sites and mountain slopes.
The disaster risk level from heavy rain has been set at Level 1, with possible thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds posing additional hazards to people and infrastructure.
