Rescue forces are sent to a flooded area in Lang Son Province on August 21.

According to the National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, from August 21 until the night of August 22, the region is expected to see widespread rainfall of 50 to 120 mm.

Some areas could receive more than 250 mm, with rainfall intensity exceeding 100 mm within three hours.

The bulletin warned of flash floods in small rivers and streams and landslides on steep slopes, especially in Lai Chau and Dien Bien.

The ministry urged local authorities to closely monitor weather updates, provide timely information to communities and prepare preventive measures. Local forces have been tasked with inspecting residential areas near rivers, streams and low-lying zones, and ensuring safety for traffic in flood-prone areas.

On the morning of August 21, hundreds of cubic metres of rocks and soil suddenly collapsed onto National Highway 4G in Son La Province, blocking the road. Fortunately, nearby residents managed to escape in time.
