The Meteorology and Hydrology Administration forecast that between June 30 and July 1, a tropical convergence zone would form over the central East Sea, linked to a low-pressure area over the central Philippines.
On July 1, the low-pressure area is forecast to move into the East Sea and has an 80-85 per cent chance of strengthening into a tropical depression, followed by a 60-65 per cent chance of intensifying into a storm.

From July 1, waters in the eastern part of the northern and central East Sea are expected to see winds at force 5, at times force 6. Wind strength will then gradually increase in line with developments in the low-pressure area.
From July 2, waters from Khanh Hoa to Ca Mau and the southern East Sea, including the western part of Truong Sa special zone, will see south-westerly winds strengthening to force 6, with gusts of force 7-8, waves of 2-3 metres and rough seas.
Sea areas from Khanh Hoa to Ca Mau, from Ca Mau to An Giang, the Gulf of Thailand, the eastern waters of the central East Sea and the southern East Sea, including Truong Sa special zone, are expected to experience showers and strong thunderstorms. During thunderstorms, wave heights may at times exceed 3 metres. Areas of intense thunderstorms may expand northwards to other sea areas.
The Meteorology and Hydrology Administration said that from July 4 to July 7, northern Vietnam could see a spell of moderate to heavy rain over a wide area, accompanied by a high risk of whirlwinds, lightning, flash floods, landslides and localised flooding.
