A torrential downpour early on May 10 left many streets in HCM City deeply submerged, causing widespread vehicle breakdowns and making travel extremely difficult for residents.

People travel on Pham Van Dong Boulevard which is deeply submerged following heavy downpours on May 10.

According to Dantri correspondents, heavy rain began around 7 am across several districts, including Phu Nhuan, Tan Phu, Tan Binh, Go Vap, Districts 1, 3, 5, and 10. Streets such as Nguyen Van Qua and Phan Van Hon (District 12), as well as Phan Huy Ich, Pham Van Chieu, and Le Van Tho (Go Vap), were heavily flooded.

Even parts of Pham Van Dong Boulevard saw flooding. Notably, a stretch of more than 1km on Dang Thuy Tram Street (Binh Thanh District) was severely flooded, with water nearly reaching the height of motorbike wheels. Many vehicles stalled, forcing commuters to push their bikes.

Duong Van Cam Street

Duong Van Cam Street was inundated with water nearly a metre deep, rendering it completely impassable.

Tran Thien Quoc, a local militia member in Linh Tay Ward (Thu Duc City), was seen assisting a parent by carrying a child to school due to deep flooding on Duong Van Cam.

By 7.30 am, while the rainfall had begun to ease, it continued to affect a wide area. Even after the rain stopped around 8 am, water levels showed no signs of receding. Roads such as Duong Van Cam, Dang Thi Ranh, To Ngoc Van, and Kha Van Can in Thu Duc City remained deeply submerged.

According to the Southern and Central Highlands Meteorological Centre, rainfall in many areas of HCM City exceeded 100mm this morning. Specifically, Cu Chi recorded 217mm, Pham Van Coi 107.4mm, and Thu Duc 103.8mm. Other parts of the southern region also saw rainfall between 90mm and over 100mm. This was considered the heaviest rain event since the start of the season.
