The train ran a return journey from Ben Thanh Station in District 1 to Suoi Tien Station in Thu Duc City for a total 40 kilometres.
The route has three underground stations and 11 elevated sections.
Around 20 passengers were on the train.
The train was running parallel Vo Nguyen Giap Street, Thu Duc City.
The test run saw the participation of Bui Xuan Cuong, vice chairman of the HCM City People’s Committee.
Tran Thanh Nha, 40, was among passengers on the train.
Huu Tam said that she was very excited to be invited for the pilot run.
The train travelled near the Saigon River.
The VND43.7 trillion Ben Than-Suoi Tien is HCM City’s first metro project. It is expected to be put into commercial operation next year.
