HCM City to inspect 1,000 apartment buildings’ water quality

HCM City will inspect the water quality at up to 960 local apartment buildings and 624 centralised water storage tanks.

The municipal Department of Health and relevant agencies will undertake the task.

Tran Kim Thach, Head of Water Quality Management at Sawaco, said any apartment with substandard water will undergo corrective action to protect residents’ health. The move is part of HCM City’s 2025 plan to ensure clean water quality for domestic use.

Authorities will gather water samples from 624 centralised storage tanks and randomly from household taps for testing. They will also assess the water quality at 27 supply units with a 1,000 cubic metres or more designed capacity.

The contamination of domestic water sources remains a pressing issue in HCM City, with residents in several apartment buildings and areas continuing to report polluted water.

Recent monitoring by the city’s Department of Health revealed that domestic water stored in tanks at several apartment buildings failed to meet safety standards, stirring public health concerns.

Centralised water tanks in several districts and Thu Duc City have also been reported to fall short of regulatory standards.
