As many as 22 walking streets will be opened in the southern economic hub of Ho Chi Minh City according to a proposal from the local Department of Transport.

Under the proposal sent to the municipal people's committee, the transport department said that Pham Ngoc Thach, Cong Xa Paris, Le Loi, Dong Khoi, which are near the popular walking street Nguyen Hue, will be turned to walking streets during weekends from now to 2023.
By 2025, the pedestrian zone will be expanded to some other streets including Cong Truong Lam Son, Nguyen Thiep, Mac Thi Buoi, Ngo Duc Ke, Dong Du, Ho Huan Nghiep, Phan Van Dat, Ton Duc Thang, Ham Nghi, Ton That Dam, Thai Van Lung, and Thi Sach.
To prepare for the plan, vehicles will be gradually banned from those streets to create spaces for culture, shopping and international culinary activities.
At present, there are two walking streets in HCM City, Nguyen Hue (opened in 2015) and Bui Vien (opened in 2017), which have become popular tourist destinations in the area.
