The students from the Medical Department at the Vietnam National University- Ho Chi Minh City gather once a month to cook hundreds of meals which they give to people who live on local streets.
"Seeing the hard lives of homeless people, we decided to establish the Phuoc Dien Charity Group in March this year to support them," a member of the group, Nguyen Hong, said. "As we're still new, we're now providing them free meals once a month using our own money."
Hong said that their biggest challenge was time because the group are mostly final-year students and are all busy with their academic work.
"We don't have much money so we just share with them what we have," she said. "Some other people have also provided financial support to help the disadvantaged."
Hong said that they cook between 500-700 meals and take them to homeless people in different districts in the city.
"The preparation work can be hard, but we are very happy to see the happy faces of people when we meet them," she said.
Another member of the group, Thanh Tra, shared that although the group provides just modest help, they're showing empathy for the less fortunate.
"We hope that we will expand our help to more people in the coming time," he said.
Sharing about their upcoming activities, Tra said that they would organise a blood donating event on July 1 and then prepare 1,000 loaves of bread and 1,000 bottles of drinking water for homeless people.
