According to the city authorities, limited budget and construction regulations have affected the investments into canal dredging, urban landscape and environmental projects. The current priority is to use the city budget for Covid-19 prevention tasks.

Three key projects are the Moc Bai-HCM City Highway with a VND15.9trn investment (USD695m). HCM City authorities requested support of over VND5trn for ground clearance. This project is hoped to better meet travel and transportation demands while easing traffic flow on National Highway 22. It is a part of the Asian Highway Project and will connect economic zones and urban areas of the southern region with ports and airports.

The second project is the Xuyen Tam Canal renovation and upgrades that will affect all canals in Go Vap and Binh Thanh districts, from Nhieu Loc-Thi Nghe to Vam Thuat canals. These are severely polluted canals and the residents have been encroaching on the canals for a long time. The estimated investment is over VND9.3trn (USD406m).

The last project is the Hy Vong Canal renovation that cost over VND1.9trn (USD83m). The project is the solution for flooding in Tan Son Nhat Airport and the surrounding 51.3ha of land.

HCM City authorities promised to speed up progress on the projects as they would be a major step forward in the city's sustainable development.
