On May 30, a 40-metre crack was suddenly found near the Rach Tom River in Nhon Duc Commune, sparking concerns over the potential risk of subsidence in the 500 to 600 square metres surrounding the area. Some local households also reported cracks along their walls.

Right after the incident happened, the three hardest-hit houses were moved. By late afternoon, the remaining households with a total number of 30 people agreed to be relocated to temporary housing for a week.
The Southern Institute of Water Resources Research is co-operating with local authorities to find the cause of the crack.

According to statistics of the Inland Waterway Management Unit, about 47 locations across Ho Chi Minh City currently face the risk of riverbanks collapsing.
Also on May 30, a 30-metre stretch of river bank suddenly collapsed near Thanh Tung Market in Dam Doi District, Ca Mau Province. The landslide swallowed five houses and local people had to quickly move their possessions from the area.
