Managers of the Hanoi Zoo have asked their workers to help protect the animals from the winter cold.

Heating equipment near tiger cage
The cold spells have killed many animals in mountainous areas. The experts and veterinarians said most of the animals are used to temperatures of 28-30 degrees, so they may suffer from severe cold spells.
In Hanoi, where the temperatures are higher, the keepers of the Hanoi Zoo still find many ways to keep the animals warm during the winter.
A team was set up to monitor the animals day and night. Heating equipment and canvases have also been used.
Zookeepers have also built fires near most of the cages and used canvas to shelter them from the wind. Leopards and lions have been kept indoors with heaters.
All animals remain alive and well even though Hanoi has been under a cold spell for the last 20 days.
The Hanoi Zoo will continue to protect the animals from the cold and plans set up a system of rewards and commendations to encourage the workers.
