Between 7 pm and midnight, officers inspected nearly 4,600 vehicles and recorded 85 alcohol-related offences, including cases involving female drivers.
Checks focused on streets lined with restaurants and bars where diners were likely to drive home. On Kim Ma Street, a six-officer team stopped nearly 300 cars and detected two violations.
Officers also recorded a 47-year-old Hanoi driver at 0.103 mg per litre of breath alcohol. Around 11 pm, a 55-year-old from Phu Tho registered 0.347 mg per litre and faces a VND 19 million (USD 722) fine and a 10-point licence deduction.
At the Le Duan-Tran Nhan Tong junction, officers recorded four violations in just over an hour, including a female motorcyclist with a reading of 0.085 mg per litre. She faces a VND 2.5 million fine and a four-point licence deduction.
On Kham Thien Street, officers detected five additional motorbike drivers in breach of alcohol limits during the same night.
Police said drink-driving checks would continue around the clock before Tet to ensure road safety.
