The Hanoi People's Committee has launched a movement to plant one billion trees in the 2021-2025 period.
Under the plan, Hanoi has urged all departments, organisations, and localities to review their plans and speed up implementation to ensure the tree planting and afforestation goals for the 2021-2025 period are completed on time or even exceeded.

Agencies and units are assigned to restore storm-damaged urban and park trees, and to plan tree planting along new roads, particularly Ring Road 4 as well as in vacant and unused land areas.
The city has asked agencies and units to organise tree-planting campaigns on forest land without trees, and to raise public awareness by encouraging each household to plant at least one or two trees.
Among the trees to be grown this year, fruit trees will account for around 350,000 which will be planted along urban roads, at government offices, public agencies, parks, hospitals, schools, and in household gardens.
In 2025, Hanoi plans to plant an additional 20-30 hectares of production forests and enhance the management and protection of special-use and protection forests, aiming to maintain a stable forest coverage rate across the city.
