Authorities in Hanoi are collecting opinions from organisations, experts and residents on the draft master plan for the capital, which sets out a long-term development vision spanning the next 100 years. Public consultation runs from March 12 to 23.
According to the draft plan, the planning scope covers the entire administrative area of Hanoi, with a total natural area of about 3,359.84 square kilometres.
The city’s population is projected to reach about 9.05 million in 2025, rising to between 11.5 million and 12 million by 2030 and between 12 million and 14 million by 2035.
The figure is expected to increase further to between 15 million and 16 million by 2045 and 17 million to 19 million by 2065. After that period, the city plans to stabilise its population at below 20 million.
Under the selected growth scenario, the city aims to maintain annual gross regional domestic product growth of about 11 per cent during 2026-2030, with per capita GRDP exceeding USD 12,000 by 2030.
During 2031-2035, GRDP growth is expected to remain at around 11 per cent per year, with per capita income rising to about USD 18,800 by 2035.
Between 2036 and 2045, the economy is projected to continue expanding at roughly 11 per cent annually, pushing average income to around USD 42,000 per person by 2045.
For the period 2046-2065, the growth rate is forecast to moderate to about 5 per cent per year, while per capita GRDP is expected to climb to roughly USD 95,000 by 2065.
