Hoan Kiem District is seeking the approval from the municipal government of Hanoi to open more parking lots for bicycles and motorbikes along 15 streets.

Two-thirds of Hang But turned into parking lot
Nguyen Quoc Hoa, Vice Chairman of the district People’s Committee, said the move is aimed at meeting rising parking demand of local residents and tourists.
The district also proposed that the municipal Department of Transport not to allow trucks to park along the medians of Tran Nhat Duat, Tran Khanh Du and Tran Quang Khai.
Currently, Hanoi is banning parking on the sides of 109 streets in Hoan Kiem District.
However, Hoa recommended the city’s government exclude 12 streets from the list, including Ba Trieu, Bao Khanh, Hang Bai, Hang Gai, Hang Khoai, Hang Thung, Hang Tre, Nguyen Sieu, Nha Tho, Phan Boi Chau, Trieu Quoc Dat, and Au Trieu.
He explained that those streets are not main roads and parking would not seriously affect the traffic there.
He added that the city should allow parking on the roadsides of Dinh Le, Ly Thai To and Le Phung Hieu streets.
According to Nguyen Quoc Hung, Director of the municipal Department of Transport, there are 4,530 locations along 220 main streets, in seven districts of the inner city, where streets are misused as parking lots.
Dang Van Tuong, Chairman of Ba Dinh District People’s Committee, attributed the situation to the lax management by local authorities.
