The new system will be applied to public passenger transport services covered under the city's implementation programme.
Passengers will be able to pay using transport cards, bank cards, QR codes linked to e-wallets or digital cards integrated into smartphones.
For passengers aged 60 and above, the system will support identification and verification through Vietnam's national citizen identification card in accordance with current regulations.
Ticket-related services, including registration, new purchases and renewals, can be completed online through the system's mobile application or electronic portal.
Users will be able to choose from single-journey, daily, weekly or monthly tickets depending on their travel needs.
A notable feature of the new system is its distance-based fare calculation for single-trip tickets. Passengers will be required to tap their card or complete digital verification when boarding and leaving a vehicle so that the system can record the journey, calculate the distance travelled and determine the appropriate fare.
Authorities have advised residents to familiarise themselves with accepted payment methods and ensure they complete all required check-in and check-out procedures to avoid fare discrepancies and service-related issues.
The integrated e-ticket system is expected to improve convenience for passengers while supporting Hanoi's broader efforts to modernise and digitalise public transport services.
