Over the past week, they have gathered at Xuan Son dumping ground to prevent rubbish trucks from entering the site. They set up a tent with a bed, blankets and food inside.

Ta Thi Khai, 83, from Hieu Luc Village said that "We arrange five people to be at the tent every day to block rubbish trucks. We want to protest at the unsuitable compensation policies related to the site clearance in areas which are around 500 metres from the dumping site.”
Khai added that local residents have blocked Xuan Son landfill several times, but their compensation issues have not yet been properly settled.
According to Hanoi Urban Environment Company (Urenco), since Xuan Son dumping was blocked, waste in My Duc, Phuc Tho, Thach That and Ba Vi districts have had to be taken to Nam Son dumping ground in Soc Son District, while rubbish in Thanh Oai District has piled up.
Nguyen Thi Nam, head of Hanoi’s Department of Natural Resources and Environment, said that local authorities advised people to keep calm to deal with problems. But they have continued their strong protest.
The Hanoi Department of Construction reported that Hanoi discharges around 5,000 tonnes of rubbish per day. Of the figure, 1,000 tonnes is taken to Xuan Son dumping ground daily.
