Hanoi hosts special Tet program for overseas Vietnamese

A special program will take place at the southern gate of Doan Mon of Thang Long Royal Citadel in Hanoi on January 28 to welcome Vietnamese expatriates returning home for Tet.

A special program will take place at the southern gate of Doan Mon of Thang Long Royal Citadel in Hanoi on January 28 to welcome Vietnamese expatriates returning home for Tet Lunar New Year.

The event is being organized by the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

According to the Culture-Information Department of the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese, the event titled ‘Xuan Que Huong’ (Homeland Spring) will see the presence of 700-800 overseas Vietnamese together with high-ranking Party and State leaders and representatives of foreign diplomats.

This year’s program is to celebrate the successful hosting of the 1,000th anniversary of Thang Long-Hanoi and the 11th National Party Congress, as well as to mark 100 years since Ho Chi Minh left Nha Rong Wharf on board a French ship to seek ways to liberate the country and 60 years since he returned to his homeland.

The program will start with an incense burning ceremony at the Kinh Thien palace in the royal citadel.

Vietnamese artists at home and abroad will perform at the program.

In Hanoi, Ly Thai To Square will be venue for an official program on February 3 titled ‘Xuan Que Huong 2013’ (Homeland Spring)-a celebration for Vietnamese expatriates returning home to mark the Tet Festival.

Some Overseas Vietnamese artists are expected to bring a warm happy atmosphere through performances.

Songs praising the country’s achievements are some of the program’s highlights. Participants will also have the opportunity to exchange stories and experiences.
