Hanoi cyclo drivers fined for overcharging Australian tourists

Police in Hanoi’s Hoan Kiem District fined two cyclo drivers for charging an Australian family VND 1.2 million (approximately USD 49) for a short ride around the Old Quarter.

The incident happened at around 4 pm on September 22, when Phillip Damien, 55,  from Australia reported to Hoan Kiem police that his family of four had been overcharged for the sightseeing trip.

Following verification, police identified the two male drivers, Nguyen Van Bien, 51, and Nguyen Vu Huy, 39. At the police station, they apologised and returned the full amount to Damien, who accepted the apology and did not request further action.

Hoan Kiem police issued an official report and required both drivers to sign a commitment not to overcharge passengers in the future.
