The design of Thuong Cat Bridge
The Hanoi People’s Committee on October 8 broke ground on the Thuong Cat Bridge project, which includes the bridge itself and connecting roads on both sides of the Red River.
The project aims to improve the city’s transport infrastructure, reduce daily congestion, and accelerate urban development in surrounding areas, the committee said.
Designed as a cable-stayed bridge, the structure and its approach roads will have a total length of more than 5 kilometres and a width of eight lanes, including six lanes for motor vehicles and two lanes for non-motorised traffic.
The total investment is estimated at VND 7.3 trillion (approximately USD 290 million), funded entirely by the city budget. Completion is expected in 2027.
At the groundbreaking ceremony, Duong Duc Tuan, Vice Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee, said the project plays a crucial role in completing the city’s planned transport framework and improving connectivity between northern districts across the Red River and the urban core.
“The Thuong Cat Bridge will form part of the Ring Road 3.5 network, helping share traffic flow from Ring Road 3 and boosting socio-economic development in the capital,” Tuan said.
