The Ca Mau Centre for Disease Control said on June 9 that the southern province had reported more than 1,470 cases of hand, foot and mouth disease since the beginning of 2026.
The figure represents an increase of more than 149 per cent compared with the same period in 2025, when 590 cases were recorded.
The province has also reported one fatality, involving a three-year-old boy from Vinh Loc Commune.

According to health authorities, the child initially developed symptoms including fever, mouth ulcers and blisters on his hands and feet. He was taken to hospital for treatment but did not survive.
Health officials said cases have been detected across multiple localities in the province, primarily affecting young children, with infections showing an upward trend in recent weeks.
The increase mirrors a broader rise in hand, foot and mouth disease cases across southern Vietnam, where severe infections and fatalities have also been reported.
“The risk of further disease outbreaks remains high across the province, particularly in educational institutions, childcare centres and residential communities,” the provincial health sector said.
In response to the situation, the Ca Mau Centre for Disease Control said provincial authorities have instructed government agencies, departments and local administrations to strengthen disease surveillance and prevention efforts.
The measures include enhanced monitoring, early detection of infections and increased public health campaigns aimed at reducing transmission among young children.
Health officials have urged parents and schools to closely monitor symptoms, maintain hygiene standards and seek medical attention promptly when signs of infection appear.
