Quang Nguyen Boarding Primary School lies in Quang Nguyen Commune, Xin Man District. The school lies some 20 kilometres from the commune's centre but it took about an hour to travel by motorbike on the difficult mountainous road to get there.

While the classrooms are built from brick, the boarding facilities for dozens of students are made from metal sheeting due to budgetary issues, according to a commune leader.

Speaking to Dantri/Dtinews, a teacher, Hoang Kim De, said that there were three rooms for students to stay here. They are all built from metal sheeting so it's very cold in winter and very hot in summer.

"It's only early summer but our students are saying that they can’t sleep due to the hot weather," the teacher said. "It's easy to see as 25-26 of them have to share the small 10-square metre room. We give each room an electric fan but it doesn’t help much."

A student, Trinh Thi Thu Luyen, said that she and other students just want a better place to sleep well at night.

According to the school headmaster, Hoang Van Toan, his school has 290 students from some ethnic groups including the Dao, Nung, and H’mong whose lives are still very difficult. Due to difficult roads, many students have to stay at the school and only return home at weekends. He really hoped to receive support from donors to help build better boarding facilities for the students.

Vice chairman of Quang Nguyen Commune People's Committee, Hoang Ngoc Duy, also said that due to a lack of budget, many students in his area have to stay in such poor-condition boarding facilities.

"We hope that Dantri/Dtinews Newspaper will help connect kind donors to help us build better facilities for local schools," he said.
